Tutorials: Cinema 4d

Depth of Focus

Intermediate

In this tutorial we are going to learn a neat effect in Cinema 4D called DOF. This effect is really good if you want to give your images some realism and Depth of Field (duh).

Open up a scene you want to render. Go to the Light icon, click and hold down, and choose the Camera icon. A Camera will be created in your scene.

Next, double-click on the Camera icon in your Object Window and a window will pop-up from which you can adjust the Camera settings. To the right, you have a section called Depth of Field. Click on the drop-down menu and you can choose where the Depth of Filed will take place. I chose Rear. You can also adjust the Sharpness and Focus. Feel free to experiment with these settings but for now just let it be like it is. Now click OK.

In the Perspective View, Choose Cameras - Scene Cameras and select the Camera you created. Now you will see from the view of the Camera you created. Move it around until you're happy.

Go to Render - Render Settings, go to the Effects settings and click on Post Effects and Choose Depth of Field from the drop-down menu. I also turned on Caustics and Best Antialasing. Hit Shift+R to render your scene. When the render is done the DOF effect will take place. That's it for this time, pretty easy. You can do some very neat stuff with DOF this was just to get you started. Check out what I came up with.
